Type Locality and Naming
The lectostratotype is Aburiajiazai section (N34°08′00″,E92°30′00″), Zhiduo County, Qinghai Province, which was measured by Gengcheng Guo et al. in 1989. The Wudaoliang Formation named by the Comprehensive Geological Brigade of Qinghai Regional Geological Survey in 1990.
Lithology and Thickness
Orange mudstone, light grayish-green marl interbedded with gypsum and salt rock. The thickness ranges from 115 m to 1300 m.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Wudaoliang Formation conformably overlies the Yaxicuo Fm.
Upper contact
The Wudaoliang Formation is unconformably overlain by the Quguo Fm.
